Introducing our new Trustees

posted in: News, Portal | 0

GFS is currently in an exciting period of external and internal change. We’re adding fresh faces to our head office, extraordinary Board of Trustees and on our committees. Throughout the recruitment process our board was determined to develop diversity on the board and committees, while also recruiting young trustees and committee members.

We were completely swamped with the most incredible applicants. Now that we’ve wrapped up a successful round of interviews, we’re delighted to announce the newest members taking up positions on our board:

  • Parv Sangera: Trustee and Chair of People & Operations subcommittee
  • Sacha Rose Smith: Safeguarding Trustee and Chair of Impact and Quality subcommittee
  • Bryony Thomas: Legal Trustee
  • Kate Bowden: Fundraising Trustee and Chair of Fundraising & Growth subcommittee
  • Tasila BandaEDI Trustee
  • Georgia Whitfield: Young Trustee
  • Acushla Young: Young Trustee

We’re confident each new addition to GFS will build on the work and achievements of those who held the roles before them, while also sharing their own unique skills, experiences and ideas with us.

Chair of the Board, Leanne Massey said:

“The GFS Board has always been dedicated to doing the right thing for girls and young women in supporting the whole team through the decades.

We are now facing new challenges as we move into the next chapter of our history.

We have done a great deal of work to better understand these and develop a Board that is able to ensure a sustainable future for the charity as we had towards our 150th birthday!”

We’re making more space for girls and young women’s voices in our organisation. Our first step towards achieving a better girl-shape involves adding two brand-new Young Trustees to the board. Defined as under 30s, Young Trustees bring the voice of girls and young women to every level of GFS.

While more work remains to be done, after an in-depth governance audit, review of the skills gap and a thorough review of our board of trustees, the board has revised their by-laws and developed new sub committees to help GFS reach its goals, as outlined in our strategic plan.

Alongside our new trustees, you’ll notice our committees are beginning to fill out. Two of our recent additions include Farrah Ekeroth on the People and Operations Committee and Dulmini Atapattu on the Quality and Impact Committe. We encourage you to support them in their new roles, as they help us achieve our exciting goals for an unstoppable GFS future.
