Summer fun for County Durham

While GFS groups typically run during school term, the need for the spaces we offer goes beyond the academic school year. This summer GFS was able to deliver summer sessions to our groups in County Durham, thanks to the generous support of Fun & Food County Durham.

This gave girls in the area the chance to have fun and try new things, keeping them safe and supported all summer long. Girls enjoyed activities such as bowling, pizza making, lantern making and so much more.

Some of the sessions were even supported by an external facilitator, who said she loved being involved.

Every session girls got the chance to enjoy a healthy and nutritious meal, tasting new foods that many of the girls loved. At a Chinese themed night, one girl said “I have loved tonight, some of the food was gross but using chopsticks was really cool!”

While the girls didn’t necessarily like everything they tried, they didn’t let that stop their adventurous spirits and fun-loving attitudes. In the end, they always found something to enjoy and took away something positive about their experiences.

One girl even went so far as to say, “My favourite thing has been these summer sessions”.

Groups delivered a total of seven summer sessions to local girls at GFS Eldon and GFS AYCC.

The support we receive from AAP to enable us to reach as many girls as we can and offer them new experiences and ways to improve their confidence is invaluable.

These summer sessions provided the girls within our community an ideal chance to have some fun and do something different and would not have been possible without the vital funding we received.

Our groups are so grateful for the ongoing support which is really valued by us all.

GFS received a total of two grants towards GFS Eldon and GFS AYCC, totalling £1700 towards the delivery of summer sessions
