Ever wanted to be able to cross-stitch your favourite feminist icons or create a ‘heroes of feminism finger puppet’? We asked GFS Groups to submit their photos and stories around International Women’s Day in order to win some feminism-inspired craft books!

Groups either came up with their own activities or picked one from the GFS Activity Finder – below are a selection of what they got up to. We’d like to thank everyone who took part – we loved looking through all the submissions. A special thanks and congratulations to GFS Hackney, GFS Pittington and GFS Market Drayton who will be getting their prizes through the post very soon!

GFS Hackney (winner):

The Hackney group celebrated the day by colouring in iconic feminist images such as ‘Rosie the Riveter’ and learning about female legends and heroes.

GFS Pittington (winner)

“We celebrated international women’s day with a discussion, a colouring session and a pooling of ideas around the topic ‘best thing about being a girl'” said group leader Jaci Dooley.

GFS Market Drayton (winner)

The Juniors and Senior groups at GFS Market Drayton created postcards stating what they would stand up for. The Senior group also had a group discussion on what it’s like to be a young woman today.

Press for change
Likewise, staff and volunteers were out and about all over the country, promoting GFS at International Women’s Day events.

The GFS Great Yarmouth Team went all out and organised a brilliant International Women’s Day event in partnership with global volunteer movement ‘Soroptimist’ and ‘GYROS’ (Great Yarmouth Refugee Outreach Services).

This particular GFS event was attended by women across the Great Yarmouth area, including its Mayor, Kerry Robinson Payne. Acid attack survivor Adele Bellis unfortunately could not attend on the day, however her powerful message to all attending was represented by a short video interview.

Meanwhile, Jennie our Midlands Regional Development Coordinator, was representing GFS at a University College Birmingham event, along with some new volunteers.

Elsewhere, GFS volunteers were spreading the cheer via social media.
