Christmas Card Competition: Nature in Wintertime

posted in: News | 2

Calling all creative GFS girls and young women!

It’s that time of year again – we’re on the hunt for a new design for our 2017 GFS Christmas card.

The winner will see their credited design printed on the cover of this year’s official GFS Christmas card which is sent put to all our members and partners. The winner will also receive a £30 Amazon voucher and two runners-up will receive a £10 Amazon Voucher each.

The theme for this year’s card is Nature in Wintertime

The Design Brief

Be as creative as you like, but your design must be related to the Nature in Wintertime theme, inclusive and inoffensive (although being a bit cheeky/funny is fine).

Designs could include all sorts of wonderful winter wildlife such as animals you might see in a typical British garden, or maybe even across the other side of the world such as Antarctica or in the dense forests of Scandinavia!

Plants are also part of wintertime nature, as are mountains, snowy woodlands, frozen lakes – even the cold weather itself. Be totally creative!

Designs can be hand drawn, painted, digitally produced (using a drawing app) or designed however you like. However, it must be flat (not pop-up or 3D) so it can be scanned and sent to print.

Bonus points will be given to designs that fill every inch of the page with colour, so please try to maximise the amount of space and not leave any plain white background (unless it’s snow of course…).

We recommend creating something that’s A4 maximum/ A5 minimum in size as the printed design will be adjusted to fit an A5 card (15cm x 21cm).

Are we really encouraging our members to forget the true meaning of Christmas? Vera

      Hi Vera,

Thanks for taking the time out to engage with this post.
We’ve deliberately left the brief broad so that girls and young women can be flexible with their ideas. The ‘true meaning of Christmas’ can be many different things to different people – for both Christians and non-Christians – such as the changing of the seasons, to bring happiness to others, the reunion of family and friends, giving gifts and sharing, Yuletide feasts and parties as well as the birth of Christ.

Girls and young women are welcome to submit entries which apply the theme of nature linked to the story of Christ of course (e.g. the donkey, sheep, Star of Bethlehem in a winter sky).

      Kind regards,
      Kat
