Planning for International Day of the Girl 2019

posted in: Portal | 0

Friday 11 October is one of the most important dates in the GFS calendar – the UN’s International Day of the Girl. This year, we are developing a national activity that we’d love for as many groups as possible to get involved with.

The theme is focusing on making girls’ voices heard and will, very excitingly, include working with local journalists.

We will provide groups with three weeks of session plans to do in the run up to International Day of the Girl, including one week where a local female journalist will attend your group. The sessions will be fun, and activity filled, but will also provide the girls with an excellent opportunity to have their voices heard in a new and exciting way, and to meet inspiring women from their community.

They will also be included within our new ‘National Challenge’ (more information to follow about this soon).

Before approaching journalists, we need to know which groups are keen to take part. If you want to take part, please send an email confirming your involvement to Leigh Ingham, our Programme Coordinator, (leigh@girlsfriendlysociety.org.uk) by Wednesday 26 June so that she can start contacting suitable women in your local area.

If you have any questions or useful contacts within journalism, please do get in touch!
