March has seen two new branches start up in London – one in Hackney and one in Brixton – along with launch days to celebrate!

Hackney
Many attended the launch day at Redmond Community Centre, which coincided with International Women’s Day on 8th March.

Our Hackney Branch offers opportunities for girls aged 5-11 to meet new friends and take part in fun activities.

Activities include crafts, cooking, music, games and trips, and are designed to help girls develop in their confidence, resilience and well-being. Girls are also encouraged to learn new skills and support one another.

When: Every Wednesday, 4.30pm – 6pm
Where: Redmond Community Centre, Kayani Ave, Woodberry Down, London, N4 2HF
Open to girls aged 5-11
Weekly subs are £1 (those who are unable to contribute will still be able to attend).

Brixton
The GFS Brixton launch, which took place on 1st March at Clapham Youth Centre, was attended by volunteers, local teachers and youth workers.

The branch is open to young women aged 14-16. Sessions offer opportunities to meet new friends, chill out and get advice on issues such as exam stress in a relaxed girls-only and non-judgmental environment.

Sessions, which take place every Wednesday, are carried out in a safe, single-gender space and are led by trained and rigorously checked GFS volunteers.

As well as fun activities designed to develop confidence, the group also offers individual mentoring to provide support during one of the most difficult periods in the young women’s lives – the transition from adolescence into young womanhood.

When: Every Wednesday, 5.30pm-7pm
Where: Clapham Youth Centre, 61 Lyham Road, Brixton, London, SW2 5DH
Open to girls aged 14-16
Weekly subs are £1 (those who are unable to contribute will still be able to attend).

Our GFS Brixton group closed in 2018. If you’re a volunteer who is interested in re-establishing this group, or setting up a new one, please visit our volunteering page.
