For this year’s annual card competition, we’re shaking things up a bit! 2025 is a special year for GFS, and we plan to spend the year loudly and proudly celebrating our history, along with the girls and women who have made it.

So, that’s why this year’s card competition is – International Women’s Day cards!

All current GFS girls and young women are invited to design a card that celebrates the power of girls and women, now or over the last 150 years.

The winning artist will receive a £20 Amazon voucher, with two runner up prizes of a £10 voucher each. On top of that, the winning cards will be sent out to GFS supporters and shared at events to inspire more people to support girls’ rights.

Your design could capture how important it is for girls to speak up and have their voices heard. Or you can think about what makes you proud to be a girl or someone who inspires you. This could be someone from history or someone you know, like a family member, teacher or even a GFS volunteer!

How exactly you do that is totally up to you!

But there are just a few rules we’d like you to follow:
  • Designs can be hand drawn, painted, digitally produced (using a drawing app) or designed however you like. However, it must be flat (not pop-up) so it can be scanned and sent to print.
  • We’re particularly keen to see designs that are eye-catching and original. It can be portrait or landscape.
  • Your design must be inclusive and inoffensive (although being a bit cheeky/funny is fine).
  • We recommend creating something that’s A4 as a maximum and A6 as a minimum in size as the printed design will be adjusted to fit an A6 card (15cm x 10.5cm).
  • Don’t use someone else’s intellectual property (for example: Disney characters) – this isn’t because we don’t think you might find Elsa from Frozen inspiring, it’s because that is a licensed character, and we can’t print it!
Entries can be submitted by:

Emailing a high-quality scan to linsey@gfs.org.uk by Friday 24th January 2025.

We highly recommend scanning whenever possible, to no girls’ artwork is excluded due to image quality.

But, if taking photos are your only option for participation, please try to do so in good light, and at as straight and flat an angle as possible. This will ensure that we are able to use the image we receive.

If you are unable to participate without posting in your submissions, please email linsey@gfs.org.uk by 5pm Thursday 19 December to request her mailing address. All posted submissions must then be sent in by Friday 3 January.

Winners will be announced in February on our channels and via email to the Group Coordinator or Group Leader of the winners’ and runners’ up’s groups.

Happy designing! We can’t wait to see your creations.
