Girls at GFS Skegness enjoy free skateboarding programme

Girls from GFS Skegness enjoyed the first of six weekly skateboard lessons at the X-Site Skatepark.

They had a great time and lots of fun and are looking forward to the next session. Skateboarding, like many other sports and activities, has many great benefits. However, skateboarding can be enjoyed by anyone, any age, sex or race.

Children who begin skateboarding at an early age learn to love physical activity and will often enjoy the health benefits of that activity for years to come.

Learning to skateboard and skateboarding:

  • Requires dedication – teaches young people the need for perseverance and commitment to achieve a goal.
  • Develops identity – skateboarding enhances social skills and helps young people develop a positive sense of identity, belonging and connectedness with the community and society as a whole.
  • Builds confidence – skateboarding boosts confidence, self-esteem and the knowledge that young people can make things happen in your life.

“Skateboarding is one of the most inclusive sports in the world. It instantly dissolves barriers between class, race, age and gender. It engages youth, relieves stress and helps to build confidence. It isn’t hierarchical – it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or a professional, a child or an adult. It is fun!” – Skatepal.co.uk
