Two MPs joined GFS Frodingham’s weekly session on Wednesday February 16, supporting the youth group’s safe return with a cheque from the council.

Holly Mumby-Croft, MP for Scunthorpe, and Councillor Robert Waltham MBE, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, presented GFS Frodingham Group Leader, Jane Holmes, with the cheque as part of the North Lincolnshire Council’s Community Grants scheme.

Last April GFS Frodingham won a grant through the North Lincolnshire Council Community Grants scheme, supporting them to re-open this essential group for girls following temporary closure from the pandemic.

GFS Frodingham successfully returned to face-to-face session delivery in May 2021.

Since returning, GFS Frodingham has seen growing girl numbers, with girls attending very much enjoying the new equipment funded by this grant.

Like many other youth support charities, re-opening our services for our girls has been a priority with many barriers. The pandemic has created and deepened many social divides, including gender inequality.

While the lasting effects of COVID-19 on girls and young women are still under research, early reports leave us confident in saying that groups like ours are more important now than ever.

We are extremely thankful for all those who help GFS to support and empower girls across England and Wales. Their futures are truly worth the investment.
