In celebration of International Day of the Girl 2020, we are thrilled to announce that GFS has a new partner! As part of their corporate commitment to helping to build an inclusive society, Legal & General has partnered with us to open four new youth groups where girls can come together to grow to try new things, make friends and discover their unique voices.

Research this week showed that while 70% of girls aged 7-10 feel that they can be themselves wherever they go, this number drops to 38% by the age of 17. Our sessions provide a fun, non-competitive space where the foundations of self-acceptance and unlimited potential can be protected.

The groups, aimed at girls between the ages of five and 16, will be based in London, Cardiff, Leeds and Bristol and begin with a six-week programme of activities focusing on inspiring women from a spectrum of disciplines. By introducing girls to these women, the charity hopes to show them that nothing is out of their reach.

Laura Sercombe, CEO of GFS said:

GFS stands for girls, friendship and a fair society, and we are delighted to have Legal & General’s support in reaching more girls and young women in London, Cardiff, Bristol and Leeds. Our groups are creating unstoppable girls, life changing friendships and breaking stereotypes one girl at a time, and we are excited to have Legal and General’s support for this.”

Sara Heald, Head of CSR at Legal & General said:

Gender equality is an issue that matters a great deal to all of us. We believe that working towards gender diversity is not only good for society, it is also good for the economy.

“We recognise the unique challenges faced by girls and young women and we’re proud to be partnering with GFS to help invest in girls’ futures so that we can see greater numbers of confident, self-assured women entering the workforce in years to come.”
