Fundraising should be fun. But if you’re feeling like you don’t know where to start, it can be anything but. Here are our fundraising top tips to get you started and inspire you to enjoy your fundraising, as well as maximising the impact of your efforts.

Give it meaning

Make sure your supporters know which charity you are supporting and why. We have provided information in the text of the story about GFS and how your fundraising will help us.  We are a very small children’s charity so we can tell you exactly where the funds you raise will go and how they will help disadvantaged girls and young women. When sharing with friends and family you can tell them exactly where their donation will go as highlighted below:

  • £5 donation would help: provide a group with a book about diverse women role models for them to base activities on.
  • £10 donation would help: provide funds to cover resources for a group activities.
  • £20 donation would help us: pay one week’s hire fee on an accessible venue for one of our groups.
  • £32 donation would help us: cover the difference between what we charge for one month of sessions and how much they cost us to run.
  • £40 donation would help us: allow us to waive one month of fees for a GFS girl who would not otherwise be able to attend.

It can also help to visualise a donation. Could you ask your supporters to donate a day’s commute if they are still working from home (their train fare/petrol money). Perhaps they could donate a week’s coffee shop money to your page? Or if they are working from home could they donate the money they would usually spend on lunch to your challenge.

Match funding

Match funding is an amazing way to boost your fundraising for GFS with very little effort! All you need to do is tell your team leader / managers at your place of work that you are taking part in a challenge event for charity and ask if the company can offer match funding! Lots of companies have these schemes in place now without staff realising so we highly recommend and gratefully ask you to ask the question to help raise more funds for Girls and Young Women in England and Wales.

Spread the word

Social media is an amazing place to document your fundraising, shout about your challenge and to get peoples support, so make sure you utilise these great tools.
