Durham University Ballet – Supporting GFS since 2020

Durham University’s Ballet Company has been generously offering free ballet classes to girls in our GFS Groups since 2020. During Lockdowns, they held online ballet classes to GFS girls all over England and Wales, giving them a fun and valuable experience when they were at home and isolated from their friends.

Once our groups opened again, the Ballet Company delivered free in person ballet classes for our GFS groups in Durham. Some girls had the chance to try something new while others enjoyed the opportunity to develop their dance skills!

It was great working with GFS to help boost the girls’ confidence and to promote a sense of creativity in the group. Durham University Ballet Company has absolutely loved running our dance classes for GFS in and around Durham, spreading the enjoyment of Dance!

Most recently, the company held a GFS fundraiser in the form of classical ballet. Their summer production of Coppélia, at the Gala Theatre in Durham, raised money for GFS through ticket sales.

The summer production from the company is always a highlight of the academic year, in which the company pools their skills to pull together something magical – which is great role modelling for our girls!

Together the ballet company choreographs, costumes and performs the entire ballet themselves, alongside a student orchestra. Many hours of hard work, passion and dedication go into the process, but in the end they create something magical together.

We are so lucky to be able to put such a show on and continue dancing together at university, and it is a pleasure to be raising money for GFS through our ticket sales.

The company has given GFS so much over the years and we’re proud of the relationship we’re really proud of. Thank you for your continued support in teaching our girls new skills and fundraising too. Congratulations on another beautiful performance, we can’t wait to see what you do next year!
