After several years working in the care sector, I decided I wanted a change.
I spent a good few months looking for a charity that aligned with my own personal values.
That’s when I found GFS, a feminist charity with a small staff team and over 160 volunteers, working to give girls a place be themselves and fulfil their potential.
I didn’t need to think twice, I applied instantly, eagerly awaiting a response from Laura, GFS CEO, and Beverley, Head of HR.
Throughout the application and interview process I was blown away by what I saw – a charity that cared about the girls, the volunteers, and staff.
A charity who made promises and stuck to them. A charity who are making an impact every day, by challenging key issues for girls and young women, all while focussing on their commitments to EDI and the environment.
I have been with GFS for seven weeks now. My first impressions were correct – this is the charity for me. This is the charity that shares my values and deeply cares about girls and young women.
Every volunteer, trustee, committee member and member of staff have girls and their needs at the forefront of their mind. Every person I have had the pleasure of meeting has been an absolute credit to the organisation.
And most importantly, the girls I have met have been are inspiring in their journeys and knowledge, and at times a little energetic or ‘wild’!
I am so grateful to have found GFS. Like many people have said to me since joining, “I wish I had GFS when I was younger.”
