Celebrating PRIDE month

posted in: News, Portal | 0

Last term we celebrated International Women’s Day together by taking part in the #ChooseToChallenge activity. We loved seeing all of your art and photos, so this term we would love to all celebrate PRIDE month together.

Our vision at GFS is of a world where girls and young women are free to be themselves and feel proud of who they are. One of the ways we try to achieve that is by showing girls a wide range of role models, and celebrating under-represented people. It’s our way of showing girls that they can be whoever they want to be and that there is no one way to be a woman or girl. That’s why celebrating LGBTQ+ people, not only during PRIDE month, but all year round is important for us and we hope you will join us.

Take part

We’ve come up with three activities based on the rainbow flag and we’d love to see photos of you all taking part over the next month. These activities below are a great way to engage your child with the of PRIDE and celebrating the message that love is love.

At its heart, PRIDE is about accepting others, celebrating who you are and love. We love the idea of learning about the PRIDE movement and then encouraging girls to think about the things that make them who they are for their own pride flag. You can share pictures of your celebrations and flags with us by tagging us on social media.

If you would like some further resources that help you discuss LGBTQ+ rights and relationships with your child, we can recommend this resource from Welcoming Schools.
