Following on from England's historic win at the World Cup, cricket is beginning to take off at GFS and more groups are keen to get their hands on a cricket set so that they can bat and bowl their way to success. At GFS Eldon they took part in the Let's Be Women cricket project, learning new skills such as how to bowl and bat, as well as discussion and reflection.
Physical activity and enjoying using our bodies to move around and have fun is a key part of the GFS programme. Many of our groups have access to outdoors space and love to get outside for a game of rounders if the weather is bright enough. Rounders can develop hand/eye coordination skills, sharpen reactions, develop team work and communication skills, as well as get the heart pumping. £24 could provide a GFS group with a rounders set to be used over and over.
Set of hula hoops
Get Active is a core part of the GFS programme. A donation of £36 could help to get girls moving by providing a group of 15 girls with hula hoops. Hula hooping can help strengthen the heart, build coordination skills, strengthen the back, focus the mind and make physical activity fun. With so many opportunities for sedentary activities, at GFS we try to make sure girls and young women get plenty of opportunities to enjoy feeling healthy and positive.
