Hosting a GFS fundraiser is a great way to bring people together and support a good cause at the same time. Whether it’s donations instead of presents at a birthday party, a quiz night or raffling off an unwanted gift, there are loads of fun ways that you can raise funds to support our work with girls and young women.

Ideas

Girls from GFS Rothwell hosting a tea party
Girls at GFS Rothwell hosted their own tea party

Host a tea party – Whether homemade or shop-bought, everyone loves a slice of cake. Hosting a tea party is a fun way to catch up with friends or bring together your local community. To fundraise, you could either have a small entry fee, cost per slice cake, or even challenge people to enter a Bake Off and have a small charge for taking part.

Dare to cut your hair – if you go for the big chop, not only can you collect sponsorship to boost your bravery, but you can also donate the hair to a charity like Little Princess Trust. Those with beards can also fundraise when they brave the shave!

The brilliant birthday – Gifts given on special occasions are a thoughtful gesture, but if you find you’d like friends and family to give a gift that won’t break the budget, but will last, it can be lovely to ask them to make a donation to GFS on your behalf. They can either donate, or select specific items from the GFS virtual gift shop.

You can also raise money this way on Facebook by visiting the GFS Facebook page, clicking on the three dots under the cover picture, then selecting ‘Create Fundraiser’. You can also set up your own donation page here.

Super sports day – If your friends and family have a competitive streak, or simply love a good run around, why not throw a sports day at a local park. Whether you’re more rounders or egg and spoon, ask everyone to bring along a small entry fee and their runnings shoes for a great family friendly day.

A fundraising feast – why not throw a dinner party with some of your nearest and dearest to raise funds for GFS? An inexpensive meal (a veggie chilli night is one of our favourites!) and some party games are a great way to get people together. Instead of people bringing a gift, or flowers, ask them to make donation instead.

The legal bit

  • All funds must be given willingly and with the donor’s full understanding of what they are for
  • Legally, any funds raised for GFS *must* be paid to the organisation.
  • If you want to collect Gift Aid on any donations made in cash, the donor will need to complete a Gift Aid declaration form. We can supply you with these when you let us know about your fundraiser.
