We are raising funds to launch 6 new groups in areas where economic disadvantage compounds the barriers girls already face due to their gender, leaving them at greater disadvantage. Our groups will provide safe spaces for girls to have fun and build confidence, resilience, aspirations, and wellbeing

    Situation

From birth, girls are surrounded by gender stereotypes, and social bias, with our volunteers reporting girls aged 7 worry about how people view them because of their gender, including being “bossy” and "ugly". As girls age, this manifests into low-self confidence and reduced aspirations, limiting girls' ability to lead happy and healthy lives. The impact of this is heightened in areas of economic disadvantage where opportunities are reduced, and daily challenges are increased.

    Solution

We run recreational groups for girls aged 5 - 11, where they tell us they feel "happy" and "safe". We work in communities where economic disadvantage increases gender inequalities, leaving girls bored, frustrated, isolated, and vulnerable. In 2023, we will be launching 6 new groups in communities where girls need GFS most. At sessions, girls will access inspirational women role models, and participate in activities designed to build foundations of confidence, wellbeing, and self-esteem.
